Overview
Kenya's national parks read like a highlight reel of East Africa. The Maasai Mara showcases the Great Migration and some of the continent's best predator-prey encounters, alongside the chance to visit Maasai communities and learn about their centuries-old way of life. Amboseli National Park delivers the classic postcard shot — elephant herds roaming beneath Mount Kilimanjaro — while Tsavo's vast wilderness, Samburu's Grevy's zebra and reticulated giraffe, Laikipia's conservation-focused conservancies, and Lake Nakuru's flamingo-lined shores round out a country with few equals for wildlife diversity.
Whether you're looking for abundant wildlife, rich cultural heritage, or simply a place to disconnect from the modern world, Kenya offers an unparalleled experience. It remains one of the few places on Earth where nature dictates the rhythm of life.

The northern continuation of the Serengeti ecosystem, and the most consistently rewarding big-cat viewing in East Africa. Between roughly July and October the migration herds are here, and the Mara River crossings are the single most dramatic wildlife event on the continent.
When to go
July to October for the migration; big cats are resident year-round.
Famous for one thing above all: big bull elephants photographed against Kilimanjaro. The mountain sits just over the Tanzanian border and dominates the skyline on a clear morning. The park's spring-fed swamps keep the herds close and visible even in the dry months.
When to go
June to October and January to February. The mountain is clearest at dawn.
North of the equator, arid and rocky, and home to five species you will not find in the southern parks — the reticulated giraffe, Grevy's zebra, beisa oryx, Somali ostrich and the long-necked gerenuk, collectively the Samburu Special Five. The Ewaso Nyiro River pulls everything to its banks.
When to go
June to October and December to March.
Two Rift Valley lakes with very different characters. Nakuru is alkaline, fringed with flamingos, and one of Kenya's most successful rhino sanctuaries for both black and white rhino. Naivasha is freshwater — hippo, boat safaris, and a walking safari on Crescent Island, where the absence of large predators lets you walk among zebra and giraffe on foot.
When to go
Year-round. Flamingo numbers at Nakuru vary with water levels.
A private conservancy on the Laikipia plateau with one of the highest predator densities in East Africa, the only chimpanzee sanctuary in Kenya, and the enclosure holding the last two northern white rhino alive anywhere in the world.
When to go
Year-round.
White sand and a fringing reef an hour south of Mombasa, and the usual way to end a Kenyan safari. Kisite-Mpunguti Marine National Park nearby is among the best snorkeling on the coast, and the bush flight in from the Mara takes a little over an hour.
When to go
Year-round, driest December to March and July to October.
