Day 1: Nairobi - Maasai Mara

After enjoying your morning meal in Nairobi, your journey will commence towards the southern expanse of the Maasai Mara.

En route, you’ll make a captivating stop to appreciate the breathtaking vista of the Great Rift Valley. Upon reaching the park, a delightful lunch awaits you at your lodge, setting the stage for an afternoon filled with a game drive through this renowned reserve. Being the dwelling place of the entire Big Five and the annual spectacle of the Wildebeest Migration, the Maasai Mara provides an awe-inspiring backdrop for your inaugural day of safari exploration.

Rise before daybreak to seize a truly unparalleled experience – observing the break of dawn over the Maasai Mara. Following a quick cup of coffee, venture into the park to witness the sun igniting the savannah while the majestic big cats exploit the morning’s coolness to hunt for sustenance.

Alternatively, take to the skies through a hot air balloon safari that elevates you above the entire spectacle. Upon landing on the plains, relish a champagne breakfast amidst the wildlife. For details on incorporating a hot air balloon adventure into your safari, consult your knowledgeable safari guide.

Subsequently, return to your lodge for a leisurely late breakfast before preparing a picnic lunch. Embark once more into the Maasai Mara for an entire day of exploration. Alternatively, you can opt for a tranquil morning at the lodge, indulge in lunch on-site, and then resume your journey in the afternoon when the weather has cooled down.

Commence your day with a hearty breakfast in preparation for the extensive journey to Lake Naivasha.

Upon reaching the tranquil shores of this scenic lake, a delectable lunch awaits you at your lodge. Following that, immerse yourself in an enchanting experience with a guided boat excursion on the lake, allowing you to witness the profusion of wildlife dwelling along its banks.

Completing your day’s itinerary is a visit to Crescent Island, where you’ll stroll amidst the herbivores that inhabit this sanctuary. Encounter giraffes, zebras, and various other animals up close, all in a predator-free environment that ensures a unique and secure encounter with these magnificent creatures.

Following your morning meal at Lake Naivasha, you will embark on a journey towards Amboseli National Park.

Referred to as the Royal Court of Kilimanjaro, this remarkable park rests at the base of Africa’s loftiest peak, offering visitors unparalleled views of the mountain that are unparalleled in both Kenya and Tanzania.

Photography enthusiasts will delight in the opportunity to capture the park’s extensive elephant herds set against the majestic backdrop of the towering mountain. The park’s diverse inhabitants also include lions, leopards, cheetahs, hyenas, and a myriad of other wildlife species, ensuring a captivating experience for all.

An early rise awaits you today, providing the perfect chance to witness the dawn unveiling of Kilimanjaro. Africa’s majestic pinnacle is often coy, yet the early morning illumination grants you the finest opportunity to behold the tallest mountain on the continent.

Following breakfast, a relaxed morning game drive will treat you to the splendors of the park as you make your way towards the Namanga border crossing.

Upon fulfilling immigration procedures and coordinating with your new driver, your journey will proceed southward to Arusha, where you’ll spend the night in comfort.

After your morning meal in Arusha, your journey will commence towards Lake Manyara National Park. The drive spans approximately two hours, allowing us to traverse the charming market town of Mto Wa Mbu en route. This vibrant hub of agriculture and fresh produce serves as a crossroads of local cultures and a treasure trove for souvenir seekers.

A brief pause at the village market will be followed by your entry into Lake Manyara National Park. The park stands as an idyllic playground for photographers, offering some of the world’s finest game viewing opportunities. Count on encountering a host of Africa’s renowned animals, with the tree-climbing lions being a particularly enchanting sight. These majestic predators recline atop acacia trees, seemingly inviting their portraits to be taken.

Bird enthusiasts will find Lake Manyara to be an absolute paradise, as the park is teeming with a diverse array of avian species. Even those new to bird-watching will be mesmerized by the sight of vast flocks of flamingos, graceful birds of prey soaring above, and the vividly hued lilac-breasted roller.

Subsequently, you’ll retreat to your chosen lodging for a delectable dinner and a well-deserved night of rest.

Prepare for an early breakfast, as a day of boundless exploration and exhilaration awaits!

Our journey kicks off with a picturesque drive toward the Serengeti. En route, we’ll traverse the enigmatic mist-draped rainforests of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, where the fortunate might catch glimpses of cape buffalo, baboons, or even elephants and leopards amidst the lush vegetation.

Following a delectable lunch at the Serengeti National Park picnic area, it’s time to delve into the heart of the Serengeti itself. Bear witness to the iconic African savannah landscape and be astounded by the sheer multitude of creatures that roam freely across these expansive grassy plains.

As the day winds down, you’ll be treated to dinner and an overnight stay nestled within the heart of the Serengeti National Park, tailored to your chosen standard and accommodation preference from our diverse options.

Following breakfast, we promptly set out on the road back to the captivating Ngorongoro Conservation Area.

Our route retraces our path through the Serengeti, this time taking an alternate course that provides abundant chances to spot the elusive creatures that might have eluded you on the second day. As far as your eyes can wander, you’ll witness vast herds of animals: migrating wildebeests and zebras, elegant and towering giraffes, sprightly antelopes and gazelles, the majestic African elephant, and the esteemed assembly of predators.

The landscape presents opportunities to catch sight of lithe cheetahs and elusive leopards, scavenging hyenas, and, in a crowning moment, the undisputed monarch of the wild; the lion.

For dinner and your overnight stay, you’ll either be situated on the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater or in the nearby town of Karatu, the specifics tailored to the standard and accommodation style you’ve selected from our options.

After an early breakfast and a sunrise game drive, you’ll depart for the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Enjoy your lunch overlooking the magnificent Ngorongoro Crater, known as the “Garden of Eden” due to its concentration of wildlife. In the afternoon, you’ll descend 600 meters into the crater for a game drive. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is home to almost every species of wildlife indigenous to East Africa, including the rare black rhino. As evening approaches, ascend and retire to your lodge on the crater’s rim.

Use This Local Tour Operator! Sam is Great! Sam was an incredible host, and he delivered a trip that exceeded our wildest expectations. He was extremely attentive, and it was clear that our business meant a lot to him. It also felt so much better to use a local tour operator rather than a travel agent based overseas. Tanzania is a magical place, and they deserve to have the money from safaris flow through their own economy. We would definitely use Sam again!

Locally owned and run tour operator We had a very large family trip to Tanzania that Sam helped make happen. He was available before during and after our trip to respond to our questions and to help make sure we were having the experience we were looking for. We met two of his beautiful children while we were in Arusha and at the very end, we had the privilege of meeting his lovely wife. This made us feel so connected to him and we felt so good about having this personal and special experience rather than have booked with a company where management sat in an office overseas. He also sent us on safari with two outstanding guides - Livingstone and Hosea. They really took care of us and we felt privileged to spend time with them as well. It is not easy to find a local tour operator and if this is something you value while planning a trip to Tanzania, I encourage you to reach out to Sam.

So glad I went local! 10/10 amazing experience This was the trip of a lifetime. I was responsible for planning our (9 person!) family trip to Tanzania, which was exciting... but a lot of pressure! It was important to us to use a local agency, locally-owned operators, and locally-owned lodges throughout our stay. Sam was a godsend. We worked together to choose great destinations, lodges, and even a hot air balloon safari. Sam is the head of the local tour operators association and knows everything there is to know about safari in Tanzania. He made himself very available - we must have exchanged hundreds of whatsapps and dozens of emails in preparation for our trip. When we arrived in Arusha, I was extra glad we had chosen to work with someone based locally. We had a lovely BBQ dinner with Sam and his family before heading out on our 10 day safari. During the trip, Sam was in frequent communication with our guides to make sure that everything was going well. When we flew from Serengeti back to Arusha, Sam and his wife met us for lunch before sending us off. The trip itself was unbelievable. Our guides, Hoseah and Livingstone, were seasoned veterans. We saw every safari animal I could have dreamed of - plus some I didn't even know existed! I'm glad I took lots of photos, but not sure I needed to - these memories will last a lifetime!

Superb Safari Experience! Our large family just had an unforgettable Safari adventure thanks to Sam and his amazing staff. Our guides were knowledgeable and professional. The sites we saw over these 10 days were simply spectacular! We learned so much about plants, animals and Tanzanian culture. We were committed to choosing a local company and we are so glad that we chose Tanzanian Travel & Safari Company. Sam was with us every step of the way – during the months prior to our journey and all throughout our Safari adventure. He was invaluable in booking many of our accommodations. He truly cared about our experience. I strongly urge you to reach out to Sam when you are planning your own African adventure.

An Amazing Safari Experience Our family of 9 had an amazing Safari experience thanks to Sam, Livingstone and Hosea. It is hard to say which destination was the best between Tarangire, Ngorogoro Crater and the Serengeti. The animals, the birds, the landscape, the weather and the lovely staff in each location made the experience one of a lifetime. Our guides were very knowledgeable, accomodating, flexible, and driven to meet our needs. They helped us to see the Big Five and so much more. I recommend this tour company.

Fabulous! TTC were instrumental in putting together a rather ambitious hiking/climbing/camping adventure for me . It involved climbing Mount Longido, wild camping there and hiking sections of the Maasai plains followed by climbing Mount Meru and camping on Mount Meru too! Due to logistics and the fact that Mount Longido had been unvisited since pre pandemic, meant it was truly raw, unspoiled and wild! A brilliant experience for myself of course but it wasn't without it's challenges for my amazing support team ( my mountain family! ). Mount Meru was another amazing experience. Having climbed Mount Kilimanjaro a number of years ago, personally I found Mount Meru more beautiful and definitely not a "cake walk"....it was a true challenge but very rewarding. Summit night was tough....! Camping on Mount Meru also contributed to the uniqueness of my adventure. Thank you Sam and my incredible mountain family for making my madcap trip a reality.....and such fun!

Kilimanjaro Lemosho route TTC were amazing throughout my trek to the Kilimanjaro summit in October 2022. Everything was organised so well but the really exceptional aspect was the team of local support staff and guide. AJ, Paul, Isaya, Joseph, Pascal, Renata and the 30 other fantastic people that carried, cooked, camped and cared for us. Absolutely loved every second, a trip of a lifetime, thank you 🙏

Once in a lifetime experience I climbed Kilimanjaro with the Tanzanian Travel Company (booked through Charity Challenge UK) in October 2022. Everything was superbly coordinated by TTC, who arranged everything from porters, transport, food, tents- pretty much everything we needed to get to the summit! All of the staff from the guides and porters were very friendly and their knowledge was unrivalled. Special mentions to our lead guide, Richard, who's advice was invaluable and the other guides and porters David, Eric and Joseph (there are too many to mention). Would definitely book again with TTC in the future.
