Embark on a captivating 6-day journey to conquer the majestic Kilimanjaro via the Rongai Route, a trail that commences from the Eastern flank of the mountain. This side of Kilimanjaro showcases a drier terrain and a relatively brief forest zone. The route skirts the impressive Mawenzi and ascends through Gilman’s Point to reach the awe-inspiring Uhuru Peak. The descent route follows the Marangu Route, ensuring a well-rounded and memorable adventure.
Day 1: Simba Camp

Embark from Nale Moru Gate after a hearty breakfast. Traverse through farmlands and pine plantations, reaching Simba Camp nestled amidst the Afromontane forest.
Day 2: Second Cave Camp (Cave 2)

End Elevation: 11,319ft / 3450m
Distance: 5 miles / 8km
Time: 3-4 hours

Today’s journey offers ample time to appreciate the surroundings. Admire the eastern icefields as you proceed to Second Cave Camp, making it a relaxed half-day trek.
Day 3: Third Cave Camp (Cave 3)
Start Elevation: 11,319ft / 3450m
End Elevation: 12,468ft / 3800m
Distance: 2 miles / 3km
Time: 2-3 hours
Climate Zone: Heath
Experience one of Kilimanjaro’s direct routes, presenting the opportunity for acclimatization by ascending and descending during the day. Revel in the elevated landscapes while preparing for higher altitudes.
Day 4: School Hut

End Elevation: 15,749ft / 4800m
Distance: 6 miles / 10km
Time: 4-6 hours
Climate Zone: Alpine Desert
Ascend to significant altitudes and prepare for the imminent summit attempt. Rest and nourish yourself for the upcoming challenge while surrounded by a dedicated team.
Day 5: Summit Bid / Horombo Huts

End Elevation: 12,205ft / 3720m
Distance: 14 miles / 22km
Time: 16-18 hours
Climate Zones: Alpine Desert / Arctic / Heath
Embark on the ultimate ascent before dawn, capitalizing on firmer scree sections and optimal weather conditions. Conquer Gilman’s Point and the illustrious Uhuru Peak, savoring panoramic vistas. Descend to Horombo Huts for a gratifying dinner and well-earned rest.
Day 6: Arusha

End Elevation: 6,164ft / 1879m
Distance: 12 miles / 19km
Time: 5-7 hours
Climate Zones: Heath / Afromontane Forest
Descend through diverse climate zones to Marangu Gate, concluding the expedition. Following lunch and fond farewells to your team, you’ll return to your lodge for a rejuvenating shower. A Tanzania Travel Company Representative will visit to commend your achievement, gather your feedback, and address any queries about your onward journey.
